For those of you who don’t know…. I have a HP2110 iPaq which I have had for about a year. I get very frustrated with it because the Mac Sync App I use keeps mucking around. After many hours of trying to sort it out I have decided to use my HP as a portable movie player for when I do my on calls and we have long car journey’s (For Jasmine).

I have been trying to rip Jasmine’s DVDs so that she can watch them on the PDA and have found what I believe is the best and quickest way of getting a watchible movie on a PDA. Let me know what you think.

For DVDs
1. Rip DVD using MacTheRipper
2. Use ffmpegX to convert the ripped DVD VOBs to a AVI (If ffmpegX does not work try using D-Vision 3)
3. Open movie in Quicktime Pro
4. Export using the AVI Divx option (You can download this from the DIVX website)

For AVIs
Go straight to 3. and the 4. above.

Screenshots will follow in due course.

Update – The AVI player I use on the iPaq has resolved some issues. The outcome is that any AVI encoded with ffmpegX which is small enough to fit on a CF / SD will now play. Quicktime Pro encoding is no longer required! Horray.

I recently brought a HP2110 iPaq. I also brought a copy of PocketMac Pro to sync all my emails and stuff. After installation I followed the instructions that came will the app. Unfortunately they assume that you have email set up on your Mac as a POP. Mine’s set as an IMAP so that I can view my main inbox anywhere. Stuff I want to keep or that is big gets download to a local folder.

So this is my solution to the problem. It is worth mentioning that although I couldn’t sync my email I could browse the internet via IE on my Pocket PC.

The solution applies to people trying to connect to there Mac email account when setup as an IMAP4 service. The user name should be entered as the user name used to log into there email account. e.g. joeblogs@mac.com user name would be joeblogs. Again the password should be the one used for there email account.

The account type should be set to IMAP4. The incoming server should be entered as mail.mac.com and the outgoing server should be entered as smtp.mac.com.

The domain should be left blank. Within the options menu the connection should be set to ‘Work’ to match that set within the network management setting.
