I got my new Nintendo DS Lite about a week ago now, I finally managed to get hold of it to configure its wi-fi connection. The first attempt when very wrong, changing the config of my wireless network. I ended up having to reset everything. My setup is as follows;
- G5 PPC Running 10.4.7 (With Airport Extreme card & Connected to Netgear ADSL Modem/Router via Ethernet)
- Airport Extreme connected to Netgear ADSL Modem/Router (Router is not wireless & Airport Extreme setup as DCHP)
- Airport Express in Kitchen for iTunes
- G4 iBook connect via wi-fi network
So my G5 is connect to both wired network & the Airport Extreme to stream to the Airport Express. I have a Kiss 1500 Network DiVX player in the Living room that can access the G5 (hence the wired connection)
So over the next week or so I did some more research into the wi-fi & Nintendo DS. I think I have a fairly standard Mac setup so though I would share it with who ever wants to know. My primary objective was to get the DS onto my wi-fi network, I didn’t want to change anything about my existing network though. This is how I did it.
1. Open up Apples Airport Management Utility (from here)

You need to look at your hex Network Password. If you try to use your normal Network Password it won’t work. Either write this hex version down or have your DS ready.
2. Now get a game in your DS that can use wi-fi, I’m using Metroid Prime Hunter.

Now go into Multiplayer mode (or the equivalent) followed by selecting the Nintendo Wi-fi Connection then Configure Wi-fi (in the middle of screen)

3. This is where you are going to setup your wi-fi connection. Select the big blue box on the left (My screen shot shows Ready in Connection 1 – yours will be empty if you have not setup wi-fi before). Select Connection 1 if empty (the following screen shots show Connection 2 because I’m setting up a second Connection). Now select Search For Access Point and you will get a summary of the wi-fi networks that the DS can see (You can see my wi-fi network thats got a red closed lock, this indicates a secure network)

4. Select the network that you are going to connect to then enter you hex Network Password EXACTLY as displayed in the Airport Management Utility then click OK. You will see a Testing Connection screen next an then, assuming that you enter the hex Network Password correctly, a Connection Successful screen.

I hope that this tutorial helps us Mac users and would welcome any comments.
